From the Executive Director, Toney Begay:
Welcome to the new NM MESA website! I am pleased to serve as the Executive Director of this program.
For over 25 years, NM MESA has strived to provide year-round academically enriched activities for under-represented students throughout New Mexico. My desire, and that of all individuals involved with this pre-college program is to prepare students for college majors and careers in mathematics, engineering, science or technically related fields.
Meeting our Mission is only possible with the help of our sponsors – schools, school districts, NM colleges and universities and our corporate supporters. With their help we are able to serve more than 5,000 students in 110 schools, providing them with leadership activities, competitions, tutoring, field trips, community service projects and scholarships.
We continue to expand as our budget allows; NM MESA will have a presence in every New Mexico county in the foreseeable future. The staff works vigorously to ensure that our programs are progressive and challenge the student on a regular basis. NM MESA teachers receive regular professional development; we count award winning teachers amongst our schools, from Golden Apple Winners, a Presidential Award winner for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching to those with National Board Certification. Our teachers are dedicated to their students and the NM MESA program.
Our students are award-winning and recipients of college scholarships; NM MESA encourages them to reach their maximum potential and enter college well educated, personable and ready for what is required for a college degree in math, engineering and science.
